Notes & Announcements                      July 30, 2006

WELCOME to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church!  We are happy that you chose to worship with us this morning. Our prayer is that you will be strengthened spiritually.  Please join us again whenever you are in our area.  We ask that you sign our Friendship Rite pad located in the pews.

ABOUT HOLY COMMUNION

Today at Mt. Olive we celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  In this Sacrament we receive, in repentance and faith, Christ’s true Body and Blood, under the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of sins.  When we partake of the Sacrament here we give a public confession to our unity in the teachings of the Christian Faith.  To commune at our Altar is an expression that the communicant agrees with the Faith as it is believed, taught and confessed at Mt. Olive.  Communicant members of sister congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod are asked to announce themselves to the Pastor before the service if communing here for the first time.  Members of non-LCMS churches are encouraged to speak with the Pastor about a future, informed reception of the Sacrament at Mt. Olive.

From Luther’s Small Catechism

The Second Article of the Creed

Redemption

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

                                                                                  (continued…)

What does this mean? I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true.

WE WELCOME into our fellowship this morning Joel Houser.  Joel is received through Reaffirmation of Faith.

THE BLOODMOBILE will be at Mt. Olive on Tuesday, 2:30 to 7pm.  As some of you may be aware, our region issued a media appeal last week for blood donors, due to the critical shortage, which they have had for several weeks.  However, despite those efforts, their inventory continues to remain low.
